 Will there be any taxes taken out of the prize money?
Taxes will be withheld for any winnings over the amount of $5,000. This equals out to a federal tax of 25% and a state tax of 5% for a total of 30%. There may be additional federal income taxes that may be owed depending on the individual winner's tax bracket.
 
 Where do the lottery proceeds go?
The lottery proceeds from the Maine Lottery go to Maine's General Fund which supports over 250 state agencies and programs that provide a wide range of services to the citizens of Maine.
